About Atlas & Thread
Collected through winding flea markets, forgotten haberdasheries, antique fairs, vintage stalls, and tucked-away textile stores, Atlas & Thread parcels are a window into an often forgotten world.
Every piece has a history. It’s not until you slow down to discover that story and run your hands over the treasures that you start to understand that making things by hand, and preserving our textiles, has been happening for thousands of years.
No matter where in the world, human hands have lovingly made woven fabrics, buttons, lace, and trims for practical uses when factories were non existent. Now we can honour those makers by treasuring their handiwork in our own special way.
Every piece is intentionally gathered. I collect what I love, and if it has a story, then all the better. The stories are an integral part of the Atlas & Thread experience.
Some are stories of where they were found. Some are stories of how they were made. Some are stories of the maker, or of the fibres, or of the history. You’ll find the story attached, and the stories themselves can be woven into your own story.
I share every story I can, but some pieces are without stories; forgotten on the shelves, or in somebody’s linen trunk, and passed through so many hands that by the time it reaches you, it is a mystery. There is also a magical joy in that mystery, and I urge you to touch those pieces and create your own story of where it might have come from.
Every parcel from Atlas & Thread is unique and every parcel is a surprise. By the very nature of these pieces, sometimes there is only one that is found, and that piece will be handed to you for safekeeping. Discovering each piece in an Atlas & Thread parcel is like peeling back layers of discovery, of different textures and colours, of linens and cottons and threads.
